Nicola Cavalazzi is a London-based documentary filmmaker and founder of Subframe Media. Growing up between Italy, the USA and New Zealand, he developed a natural curiosity for places and people that keeps drawing him toward new adventures.
After years working in branded content production, over the past five years he has shifted his focus toward cultural, sports and social impact documentaries. What ties his work together is less a subject than a method: start from a world he already has some foothold in — a subculture, a sport, a corner of music history — and dig in until it's ready to share with a global audience.
He has shot a range of short and medium-length films for editorials including Resident Advisor, FACT Magazine, i-D and Vogue, as well as five feature-length documentaries: Unstoppable (2015), Hands of God (2016, produced by Alfonso Cuarón), With My Own Hands (2018), Ask the Sand (2023) and Azzurra (2024).
Every frame should serve the story — not decorate it, but move it forward. That belief keeps him exploring his craft, always chasing the next one worth telling.
